Spacecoin is thrilled to announce that it will launch its first satellite, CTC-0, on December 21, 2024. The launch is the first step in Spacecoin’s bold mission to create the world’s first decentralized space-based internet service provider that can deliver the original promise of the Internet – open access to all, with no restrictions. 

Nearly 37% of the global population today has no internet connectivity. By bringing universal internet access, we will Connect the Unconnected and provide direct-to-mobile internet connectivity to global regions that lack reliable internet access such as emerging markets. CTC-0 will take off from the Vanderberg Space Force Base aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, as part of the Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission.

How Spacecoin is Different

• Direct-to-Cell Coverage: The project will rely on 5G NTN technology to provide direct-to-device connectivity, thereby eliminating the need for expensive ground infrastructure such as fiber-optic cables and cellphone towers.
• Decentralized Network Control: Our blockchain-powered Spacechain protocol will ensure that no centralized authority controls the network. Therefore, the internet access will remain truly in the hands of the users and no telecom provider or government will be able to censor or shut it down. 
• Affordability: By eliminating the need for ground infrastructure and by utilizing blockchain technology, Spacecoin’s operational costs will be significantly lower. We estimate monthly costs of only US$1-2 per user in emerging markets.
• Industry Compliance: Spacecoin’s network will be fully compatible with the 3GPP industry standards, ensuring our network will work out of the box with all the latest 5G NTN-enabled mobile devices, including those built by Apple and Samsung.
• Open-Source Architecture: Spacecoin plans to open source our entire technology stack, including our hardware, fostering collaboration and innovation in the industry.
