Polkadot Blockchain Academy has announced the launch of The JAM Course. This is an educational program designed to introduce the brightest technical minds from around the industry to the visionary new architecture powering Polkadot.
The JAM Course is a practical initiative, designed as a more hands-on, technical follow on to PBA Campus and to the JAM Tour, which will bring developers up to speed on the core components underpinning Polkadot’s new architecture. It’s the first dedicated course covering the technology and applications for the Join-Accumulate Machine (JAM) as conceived by Dr Gavin Wood.
Combining advanced tutorials, practical sessions plus space for Q&A and debate, The JAM Course is designed for advanced Web3 technologists inquisitive of what Gavin Wood and his team see as being at the forefront of blockchain innovation.
JAM is a new architectural layer within Polkadot, designed to secede the relay chain. JAM supports permissionless code execution, Solidity smart contracts, and can accept outputs of roll-ups. This enables computation to be processed off-chain before being transmitted to JAM. From a developer perspective, it’s no longer necessary to decide whether to build appchains or smart contracts since JAM provides a flexible environment for both.
Participants in The JAM Course will gain a comprehensive understanding of the components that make up JAM including the Refine, Accumulate, and OnTransfer functions. After gaining a high-level overview of JAM’s design, the course will explore practical applications for the technology and show attendees how to build applications using tooling such as the Polkadot Virtual Machine and Polkadot API in tandem with JAM.
The JAM Course builds on Polkadot Blockchain Academy’s commitment to fostering talent and driving innovation in the web3 space, albeit this time to a more industry-established crowd. Developers participating in the program will have the opportunity to learn directly from the architects of Polkadot’s most advanced technologies. The course is designed to provide actionable knowledge that empowers developers to implement cutting-edge solutions across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
Polkadot Blockchain Academy CEO Pauline Cohen Vorms said: “JAM represents the next frontier for Polkadot, and this course is a gateway for developers eager to explore its transformative potential. Through this program, participants will not only gain technical expertise but also a deeper understanding of how Polkadot is driving the future of blockchain interoperability. We are excited to see how this new knowledge will inspire developers to push the boundaries of what’s possible in web3.”
Since its inception, Polkadot Blockchain Academy has been at the forefront of blockchain education, delivering accessible, high-quality learning opportunities to developers and web3 enthusiasts worldwide. The JAM Course follows the successful launch of PBA-X, the academy’s four-week entry-level program, and builds on its mission to equip participants with the skills needed to thrive in a decentralized world.
From understanding the nuances of the Polkadot Virtual Machine to leveraging JAM’s unique architecture, participants will leave the course empowered to apply these skills in their field and equipped to help usher in the next wave of advancement in Web3. This in person course is set to launch in December 2025 and is now open for those interested to register for updates on the application process.
About Polkadot Blockchain Academy
The PBA is designed for learners of all backgrounds and experience levels. It enables developers to deepen their knowledge of Polkadot’s architecture including its SDK. Alumni go on to land jobs with ecosystem projects, start their own ventures, and become Polkadot Fellows. Taught by the people behind Polkadot, including Dr Gavin Wood, PBA provides a strong foundation for mastering the fundamentals of blockchain technology. Web3 needs a new generation of luminaries, the PBA is on a mission to identify and cultivate this next generation.
